Flight: Concerto for Piccolo
Flight is about adventure, freedom and joy.
In the first movement Nimble, wrens, robins and sparrows dance in the glow of
afternoon rain. Everything is lighter than air; A kind of anti-gravity scherzo.
Song is the small, gentle heart of the concerto. A simple and timeless melody slowly
unfolds to reveal its depth.
Headlong is a full-tilt run into a wild forest. Inspired by my friend Suzy Milton, for
whom Flight was originally written, and her trail running adventures. It is music
about getting lost and staying found. Irrepressible pulse and tunefulness which piles
over itself to the point of breaking, but hiding a gentle soul in its scraggly foliage.
This is anti-perfect music.

It's wild and imperfect, and really captures the spirit of the piece.
